Seth R. Halpern
As a founding member of Malkinson & Halpern, P.C., Chicago Attorney Seth R. Halpern practices primarily in the areas of employment litigation, commercial litigation, medical and professional malpractice, and certain personal injury matters. While concentrating on representation of plaintiffs, he now also occasionally acts as defense counsel on behalf of business interests including family businesses, closely held corporations, limited partnerships, and individuals in claims involving employment issues.
Mr. Halpern heads the firm's Employment Law practice and has achieved successful verdicts in multiple jury and bench trials. He has appeared in over 70 employment law cases in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana and before the Illinois Human Rights Commission, the Cook County Commission on Human Rights and the Illinois Department of Labor. He has appeared numerous times before the U.S. District Courts in Illinois and Indiana, various Illinois state courts, the Illinois Human Rights Commission, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the U.S. Department of Labor. In his employment practice, Mr. Halpern regularly handles cases involving wrongful employment termination, sexual harassment, age, disability, and race discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour violations, and contract violations, as well as various other litigation issues.
By invitation, Mr. Halpern has been an active lecturer on employment law for the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE), Business 21, and the Illinois State Bar Association on topics including employment discrimination and retaliation issues, sexual harassment, wage and hour issues and the Family and Medical Leave Act. Most recently, he was a presenter at IICLE’s annual Employment Law seminars on the topic of retaliation claims and claims related to workplace violence. He is a frequent guest on the weekly Chicago IHeartradio program “It’s All Legal”, speaking on employment-related legal issues, and was recently invited to participate as an expert in employment law as part of Columbia College’s continuing series “Cinema Slapdown”.
Mr. Halpern has been chosen by his peers to be listed in Illinois Super Lawyers since 2006, an honor limited to 5% of all practicing attorneys in the state. He has also been named to The National Trial Lawyers “Top 100.” He firmly believes in the right of all employees to a fair and reasonable work place.
